WHAT WE DO

From Field to Forest – How We Make a Difference

Research

At the heart of TWF’s mission lies a commitment to scientific discovery. Our multidisciplinary research focuses on taxonomy, phylogenetics, biogeography, and species’ distributions to document India’s incredibly rich and understudied biodiversity. From the dense forests of the Western Ghats to remote islands, our team has identified numerous new species of reptiles, amphibians, crabs, plants, and more. These discoveries not only enrich scientific understanding but also lay the groundwork for informed conservation strategies.

Conservation Actions

Our research doesn’t end in the lab or field notes — it drives real-world impact. TWF works closely with local governments and forest departments to advocate for the protection of critical habitats and species. Our efforts have led to the declaration of India’s first Biodiversity Heritage Site for a freshwater fish and the creation of protected areas for highly localized, endemic species. We also intervene directly, rescuing flora from development zones and taking rapid action when species are under threat.

Community Outreach

We believe that conservation must be inclusive. TWF engages with tribal communities, students, and forest personnel to raise awareness and build capacity. Through initiatives like the “Jivanmitra” medical camps, wildlife training workshops, and educational outreach, we bring the benefits of conservation to the grassroots. By connecting people to nature and providing them with tools and knowledge, We empower frontline personnel and local communities to build lasting partnerships for conservation.
