Who We Are
India’s natural landscapes are rich and diverse, yet many of its species face increasing threats due to rapid development. While pristine ecosystems continue to thrive in some areas, numerous lesser-known species are being pushed towards the brink of extinction. At Thackeray Wildlife Foundation (TWF), we are dedicated to studying and conserving these often-overlooked species that play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
Founded by Tejas Thackeray in 2019, TWF operates with the belief that a deeper understanding of neglected species is essential for landscape-wide conservation. We strive to bridge scientific research with on-the-ground conservation efforts, ensuring that biodiversity is protected for future generations. With your support, we can amplify our impact and implement innovative conservation initiatives that safeguard India’s natural heritage.
Our Vision
Unlike many conservation organizations that focus on charismatic megafauna, TWF takes a holistic approach, emphasizing the protection of biodiversity as a whole.
Our Primary Focus Areas include:
- Taxonomy and Phylogeny – Conducting research to classify species and understand their genetic heritage.
- Conservation Actions – Investigating lesser-known species to document their existence, distribution, and ecological significance and initiating on field actions to conserve such species.
- Community Engagement – Encouraging non-specialists to contribute to conservation efforts through awareness and participation.
